It was nice to see a little sunshine again as we'd had so much rain lately, but where the rain wasn't the wind was and bloody hell it was windy.  As I was down as lead road captain for this ride I was a little concerned about taking too many inexperienced riders up the Buckets Way in such strong wind but hey, I thought, I'll just show up to BP Beresfield and see who turns up.  Thankfully, it was a bunch of the usual suspects plus a couple newer riders that were up for a little character building.  When 10am came around and no one else had tuned up, I decided to get the ride under way.  As part of the riders' briefing, I made note to be mindful of the wind and give each other a little more room than usual, just to be safe if there are any fallen branches or other debris on the road.  Time to get out of here!

I led the group out onto the Pacific Hwy and made our way up to the Buckets Way turn off.  Along the way the wind really pushed me around and a number of the riders behind me, as I saw in my mirrors.  We all made it safe to the turn off so all good, so far.

Heading up the Buckets Way gave us a little protection from the wind but introduced far more debris on the road, which thankfully, everyone managed to navigate around.  Despite the wind, it was still a really pretty run up the Buckets Way.  The country scenery along here is simply stunning, no matter how many times I've been up this road.  Arriving at Gloucester there must have been some fare on as the main road was closed and people were everywhere.  After a quick u-turn I had the group back on track and winding on through to Krambach.

The road through to Krambach is every bit as stunning at the Buckets Way but the road surface is far better.  It was only a few short kilometres until we were at the pub and found a large enough spot to park the bikes.  On the way in we had a chat with a few locals who seemed to be a bit of a fan of Rolf's V-Rod.  After the locals chatted up Rolf we headed inside for a cold beer and a hot lunch.

Lunch was awesome and really great value for money.  Between the specials board and a few burgers, everyone was full and happy.  Conversation seemed to be around the Alice Springs rally, who was going and who was also going through to Uluru.  After a bit more chat it was time to hit the road again.  First stop was Nabiac for fuel and then it was back down the highway home.

As is typical, the highway was uneventful—other than lots of wind pushing everyone around.  Everyone arrived home safe so it was another successful run and another great day with the Broadmeadow HOG.
